Breast Surgery

The students will have the opportunity to attend the outpatient breast clinic and breast surgeries actively in the OR. They will join our multidisciplinary breast team for weekly meetings. They will have the chance to accompany the patients at the radiology department for screening and biopsies; and nuclear medicine department for sentinel node mapping. They will observe the diagnostic steps of breast cancer, multidisciplinary management and personalized breast cancer treatment. The elective student will also learn how to collect and handle tissue and blood samples for molecular studies. The students that attend during “october” month will have the chance to join public awareness activities Attending students will learn diagnosis and management of most common benign breast diseases. They will see triple assesment, how to diagnose breast cancer and assist oncoplastic breast cancer surgeries. Meanwhile they will observe and learn professionalism and patient care. Learn how to approach to breast problems – Do breast examination Learn how to teach breast self examination and increase awareness Describe when to start and how to screen for breast cancer Practice appropriate use of breast imaging for breast problems Know when to refer the patient to a breast specializt Mini-Cex will be used for elective evaluation
