Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases

The student will analyze infectious diseases literature published in prestigious journal such as Lancet Infectious Diseases, Emerging Infectious Diseases, Clinical Microbiology and Infection. By collecting the information about research articles published in such journals, the student will be able to perform statistical analyses on publication trends in infectious diseases literature. These statistical analyses will be based on diseases discussed in these publications, authors who performed the research, countries/universities in which these studies were performed. The student will also develop an interactive web interface to enable other infectious diseases researcher to perform similar analyses automatically. Brief: The student will develop necessary programming and statistical skills to performcomputational analyses on medical research literature. to develop programming skills to extract information from medical literature, to develop statistical skills to analyze extracted information from medical literature, to develop programming skills to present research results on a web interface. The assessment will be based on three outputs: the software that will be developed by the student, the statistical analyses that will be performed by the student, the report that will summarize the scientific results obtained.
