During the Dermatology Elective, 5th year medical students actively participate in outpatient clinics under close supervision of faculty tutors. The elective is structured to develop clinical reasoning, visual diagnostic skills, decision-making in dermatology, as well as presentation and publication skills. By the end of the elective, a 5th year medical student will be able to: Perform a structured dermatological examination integrating clinical morphology anddermoscopy Describe basic dermoscopic findings using standardized terminology beforeassigning a diagnosis Recognize common dermoscopic patterns in inflammatory, pigmented, hair, and nail disorders Formulate diVerential diagnoses based on lesion morphology and dermoscopic clues Justify management decisions (follow-up, biopsy, treatment) using clinicalmorphology, dermoscopic and clinical reasoning Identify red-flag features requiring urgent intervention or referral Prepare and interpret KOH examination for fungal infections Obtain informed consent for dermatological procedures and clinical photography Present a dermatological case integrating clinical, dermoscopic, andhistopathological perspectives Demonstrate professional communication, ethical awareness, and reflectivepractice in patient care Participate in a supervised real-world evidence (RWE) mini data analysis using anonymized clinical or dermoscopic datasets (e.g., EMR-derived variables, lesion characteristics, or treatment outcomes) Develop a basic research question, perform simple data summarization orvisualization, and interpret findings in a clinical and academic context Classify dermatological lesions systematically according to primary and secondary morphological features Recognize common adverse effects and contraindications of frequently used topical and systemic dermatological treatments Assess transmission risk in infectious dermatoses and apply appropriate infectioncontrol measures Present dermatological assessments in a structured manner within amultidisciplinary healthcare team Student competencies including patient care, clinical reasoning, communication, professionalism, and practice-based learning are observed throughout the elective. Continuous formative feedback is provided. At the end of the elective, students present a case incorporating clinical findings, dermoscopic features, diVerential diagnosis, and management rationale. The KUSOM Clinical Performance Evaluation Form is used for reporting.
